How to Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone (3 Easy Methods)
How to Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone (3 Easy Methods)
Your iPhone saves photos as HEIC by default. Here are three free ways to get JPGs — no computer needed.
Method 1: Convert in Safari (fastest, recommended)
- Open Safari on your iPhone and go to our free HEIC to JPG converter.
- Tap Choose files and pick HEIC photos from your library.
- Tap Convert to JPG, then download each JPG — it saves straight to your Photos or Files app.
Why this is the best option: nothing to install, works on any iPhone, and your photos never upload to a server — conversion happens on your phone.
Method 2: Change the camera setting (for future photos)
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Go to Camera → Formats.
- Switch from High Efficiency to Most Compatible.
From now on, new photos save as JPG. Note: JPGs take roughly twice the storage space, so only do this if compatibility matters more to you than space. Your old HEIC photos stay HEIC — convert those with Method 1.
Method 3: Copy photos to get JPGs automatically
When you share or copy a HEIC photo from the Photos app to many destinations (AirDrop to a Mac set to compatible mode, or copying into some apps), iOS converts it to JPG automatically. This is unreliable as a method — it depends on the destination — so don’t count on it. Use Method 1 when you need a JPG for sure.
Which method should you use?
For a photo you need right now: Method 1 (the online converter). To stop the problem forever: Method 2 (change the camera setting). Method 3 is a lucky bonus, not a plan.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert HEIC to JPG directly on iPhone?
Yes. Open our free converter in Safari, pick your HEIC photos, convert, and download the JPGs — no app or computer needed.
How do I change iPhone photos from HEIC to JPG permanently?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will save as JPG from then on.
Will changing the setting convert my old photos?
No. Old photos stay HEIC. Convert them individually with the online converter.
Does converting on iPhone reduce quality?
No visible difference at high quality settings. The JPG will be larger in file size, which is normal.
Is there a built-in iPhone app that converts HEIC to JPG?
The Files app can do it: copy a HEIC photo and paste it into a folder — iOS sometimes converts on paste. But the Safari converter method is faster and more reliable.
